Lumbabu, Kenema — Sierra Leone

A meal that makes
school possible

Deep in the bush villages of Kenema, Sierra Leone, children arrive at the Assemblies of God Primary School each morning having eaten nothing. No breakfast means no focus. No focus means falling behind — and for families with nothing to fall back on, that means not coming back.

The Breakfast Project started because a missionary family refused to accept that as normal. Every school morning, 250 children receive eggs, fresh bread, milk, and tea — prepared on-site, served warm, and funded entirely by monthly sponsors like you.

“For $10 a month, a child comes to school fed, focused, and ready to learn. That’s the whole idea.”

The program is run in partnership with the school director, the local church pastor, and a missionary family with deep roots in this community. Every dollar is tracked and verified.

From the classroom

“Every morning, 250 children sit down to eat.”

At the Assemblies of God Primary School in Lumbabu, the school day starts the same way every morning — with a warm meal, a full cup, and children ready to learn.

Children eating breakfast

The unexpected part

Muslim families.
Christian school.
One table.

Every morning, a group of parents show up to cook — washing, chopping, stirring over open fires before the first child arrives.

Most of them are Muslim. Their children attend this Christian school on scholarship. They volunteer as an act of gratitude — not because anyone asked, not because they’re paid, but because something is happening here they want to be part of.

These are very poor families. And yet they give their mornings every week to make sure someone else’s child eats. In the words of those on the ground: “They are receiving the love of God in a holistic way.”

“Your $10 doesn’t just feed a child — it’s part of a story of unlikely community being built across lines of faith, every single morning.”
